Ding Dong...the jerk is gone!

About a week or so ago Marty (old bakery lead)started asking us what he should be doing at work. When I say we I really mean Michele and Shari...he wouldn't speak, look or even acknowledge me! I found it pretty funny...and figured no words said to me were better then one word! We had a big brunch on Sunday that he was suppose to help us out with and work at, but decided that he wasn't going to do that. Instead I found out on Sunday that he was going to burn out the rest of his sick days and not come back! I was so excited, which my excitement was interrupted by a big banana fiasco. We needed frozen bananas and hadn't started them...you had to be there!
I safely traveled to and from both my jobs this week with all the snow. On Sunday, Michele taught me how to ride the bus. Being that Lewis and Clark sits on a big curvy hill, my only option was to ride the bus home. It wasn't too bad, it took about 1 and 1/2 hours to get home. Then in the Morning I walked the 6 blocks to the Max station to get to Starbucks. We opened at 6:30 rather then 5am for Monday and Tuesday. I prefer the Max to the bus, Mainly it's just faster!
Well, I hope everyone has a good Christmas, I will be in Idaho with my sister's family. As long as the weather permits us to drive up there!

Team Marty ~ 1, Team Amanda ~ everyone else!

These last couple of weeks have been pretty interesting. Starbucks has been crazy busy and a lot of fun. I have decided to start learning all my customers names I have got about 20 of them down. Bon Appetite is slowly getting better, the bakery lead is leaving around Christmas and not coming back. We are all pretty excited about him leaving. With him gone, that means more responsibilities for the three of us left in the bakery. I will be taking over the catering side which means I now have a meeting every Thursday.
This last week was a little rough, Tuesday I woke up pretty late. I usually wake up at 3 am and get dressed and head to Starbucks but that morning I fell back asleep for 45 minutes and had to rush out of the house. When leaving my house I walked right into the biggest mambo jambo spider web EVER! It was seriously the size of my face! I wouldn't be surprised if Spiderman himself spun the web, it was that big. My face nearly bounced back...sadly the web clung to my face and I was for sure there was a huge hairy spider on me. All day I felt as though there were spiders crawling in my hair! I then went to Starbucks where I was a little grumpy and was pretty happy to leave at 10 am. When I got to Bon Appetite Marty decided to have a meeting with our Sous Chef ( She is second in command) to tell me how terrible of an employee I was. Needless to say I was pretty upset at the end of the meeting. When he went home for the day I went and talked to the Executive Chef and he told me that Marty is an idiot and not to listen to him. That made me feel a lot better! Don't worry my day wasn't quite over yet! When I got home, I went straight to bed only to find that Murphy had Peed on my pillows! Well I assume it was Murphy, Tori doesn't usually do that! So then I had to wash my pillows and ended up sleeping on a stack of towels! We think Murphy is mad at us because we aren't always home, about a week or so ago he peed on Tori's rain coat, luckily it was a rain coat and not her pillows! The rest of the week went ok, Marty started being nice to me again...although I don't trust it! Thankfully he will be gone after Christmas....Merry Christmas to us!

October

Well it has been a quick month and a half since I last blogged. Sorry, although I don't have internet at home and get off of work after the library closes...not so much my fault. Both works are going fine. I was a little stressed out there for a while. Starbucks was messing with my schedule and Bon Appetite was just frustrating. I now have a set schedule that I work and it is working out wonderfully.
A couple of weeks ago I had a wedding cake down in corvallis. I baked all the cake at my house and made buttercream at Aunt Mel's house. The cake turned out really nice. It was very plain but I usually feel that less is better. I drove down to Corvallis on Friday and spent the night at Aunt Mel's house and the next morning she and I went to deliver the cake. When we were done I hung out with Uncle Jack for awhile and then drove all the way back to Portland. Here is a picture of the cake, when I first dropped off the cake there was no table cloth of even flowers for the top. I am glad they changed that...It looks much better.

Since I now open Starbucks everyday during the week I have started to get to know the regulars more. My co worker Carolyn told me that I had to learn the names of 5 different customers during my shift. I actually learn 8! I mean really 5? come on give me a challenge! There is Judy ~ Grande extra Caramel, Caramel Frappachino, Janice ~ Venti non fat Caramel Macchiato, Taryn (the pregnant lady) ~ Grande 3 pump non fat no whip mocha, Don ~ Venti no room Americano with a double cup, Pete ~ Doppio espresso with 1" of steamed milk and a tall ice water, Shelia ~ Venti non fat no whip Hot chocolate, Ashley ~ either or both a tall Caramel Macchiato, Grande non fat extra foamy latte, Bobbi ~ Venti Light whip pumpkin spice latte. That's right I know my customers!
Last week I went to lunch with Sandra and after lunch signed me up for my 401K. Now I really feel like an adult! She invited me to go to the blazer game the next night. Our tickets were on the 100 level and we had so much fun! Her friends Woodley and Kristi came with us. I haven't watched a blazer game in a really long time! This game made me want to be a blazer fan again! We ended up winning by 2 or 3 points.

Things will calm down a little in December. Bon Appetite will close for about a month for Christmas break. So, if anyone needs any ganaches, turtles, truffles...let me know. I will be charging $10 for Ganache, $1.75 each for Turtle and $1.25 each for truffles. Or really if you need pies, cakes ect. just let me know!

My typical day with both jobs...

You might be thinking that waking up at 2:45am is just dreadful! Well, It kinda is. I usually wake up hoping that my phone is ringing or someone it texting me but it's always my alarm. I will snooze the alarm once but only once because I know that if I do again there is about 72% chance that I won't wake up until Carolyn calls me at 4am, to say I am late. So, I roll out of bed and flip the light on to see Murphy looking all distorted and mad because I am making him go outside. As he is outside I find the Starbucks uniform of Khaki pants and black polo that are most likely on my floor. I would like you all to believe that I am the type of person that folds my clothes after wearing them and puts them away or into the dirty laundry container. If you know me at all, you know that is soooo not the truth! I have tried to be that person but it doesn't work...I have come to grips with it, you should too! I don't usually shower in the morning on the days that I open, only because my 10 minute shower turns into 30 minutes. It takes everything in me to turn off the hot water. I don't know why Tori's house has so much hot water, the last 2 places I have lived you had at the most 7 minutes to get your showering done. As soon as I am dress I leave and head to work, I usually get there about 30 minutes early, if I fall asleep in my car waiting that's ok, falling asleep at home is not! When Carolyn arrives we both go into the store and start the opening process. We usually spend a lot of the morning complaining about the close the night before. We ponder why the 3 people closing couldn't find the time to fill the ice bin. They always leave a note saying "sorry about the close, we were really busy!" even though they are expected to be there till 10:15pm and probably left around 10:00pm. Filling the ice bin takes at the most 2 minutes depending on just how retarded you are! We finally open at 5:00 am and don't usually serve any one till about 5:30am. Then the regulars start flooding in starting with chopper guy, neck tattoo, Iced 5 shot venti vanilla latte guy, the funny grande coffee guy, extra caramel frapacchino lady who smells bad, lady that wears too much perfume, Chai guy who I hate....oh the list goes on and on and on.
around 8:30 am it gets really busy and the shift manager gets really quite hoping that I will forget that I have to leave at nine to start my commute to the other side of town. So, I start saying in the midst of calling back drinks "I gotta leave, Decaf iced venti with room americano, really I have to leave, Double tall nonfat no whip pumpkin spice latte, really guys I need someone to take over my spot" Eventually the next person on wanders out from the back to take my spot and I clock out grab my Iced Venti no classic green tea lemonade (which lights up my morning). I jump in the car and take off towards my house.
I sometimes depending on how much time I have, will go home and let Murphy out. Mostly I go straight to Lewis and Clark and try to find a parking spot near my building. Once I have parked I run into the kitchen walk back to the bakery and say good morning and drop off my purse. I then head over to the uniform rack and search through the pants to find medium with draw strings. Sometimes they have them and sometimes I have to wear the larges. I don't like sharing pants with everyone I work with but it makes me feel better that the ones that really gross me out are a lot bigger then a size medium. The pants are elastic band with drawstring and tapered leg. I personally feel that whoever came up with the tapered leg look should have been shot. It's one thing if they are skinny legs all the way down but another thing when they poof out at the hips and then taper down to tiny little ankles. These pants seriously were made for people with the "Frontal Butt" or in the medical world it is known as a "Panis". Seriously I have room to fit a fairly large watermelon in the front of my pants! Really, I am not lying to you! The jackets I don't have a problem with, They are always the same. The changing room is our bathroom with one stall and about five feet wide. So, you have to be quick with you changing pants because if the door opens anyone walking by sees you naked. My day in the actual bakery is mostly uneventful. Marty my boss goes over the list he wants me to do for the day which the list usually takes me 4 or maybe 5 hours. I will make what we need for dinner around 800 pieces of dessert with 5 different choices including 1 vegan choice.
The rest of the day goes by without too much craziness. I try to leave work at 6:30 pm for my full 8 hours...but sometimes there just isn't enough for me to do. When I go home Murphy is sitting an the couch barking at the leaves falling until I walk in and he runs over to greet me. I try to relax for an hour and half and then head off to bed only to start the whole day over again. I know I have made it sound glamorous but it's not as great as it sounds.

3am...it's early!

No worries guys, I am still around! Now that I have 2 jobs I am a little bit busy. We don't have Internet at the house so I usually go to the library to blog...and since I work 10am to 6:30pm (the same hours as the library) I don't get to go to the library that often. Starbucks is going good...although they did just fire our Manager and we don't have a manager currently, but for the most part it is going well. I usually open for them during the week. We open at 5am, I have to be there by 4am which puts me getting out of bed at 3am!
Bon Appetite is fine, I don't usually work 40 hour for them and the job is easy and kinda boring. I do really like the people I work with so that makes it nice. There is this one guy who seriously is the smelliest guy I have ever met. He stinks of B.O. I am not sure how someone goes around smelling so bad. I always know if I smell...although I usually don't smell. All he has to do is walk in the bakery and the whole place smells of him! Even the yummy cookie smell is killed by his presence!
I went to my friend Sandra's office in downtown to figure out my 401K with Starbucks and found out I have 2 shares of Starbucks stock. I am not sure where they came from but I have them! I have had them since September 2005...I am guessing Starbucks gave them to me, but don't remember being told and I don't remember buying them...oh well!
The only other thing going on in my life right now is the 4Th season of Prison Break! Hooray they brought back Dr. Sara Tancredi! Those of you who don't follow the show they chopped her head of in season 3 and well it turns out it wasn't her! Hooray!

I Love the Olympics!

I am never as patriotic as I am when I watch the Olympics! My favorite events are Swimming, Women's Beach Volleyball and Gymnastics! After watching these events over the last 2 weeks or so I have decided that I want to be Shawn Johnson. Not only is she miniature and cute she is pretty darn good at what she does.
I have also decided to become an Olympic swimmer. I figure I have 4 years to become the best in the country...not a problem. Think of the fun I will have going to the Olympics! I would definitely become good friends with Michael Phelps, they would talk about our great friendship in interviews and we would say things like "we're practically brother and sister". We would listen to the same music on our ipods, and have stories about stupid stuff that would only make us laugh.
While I was racing the cameras would pan to the audience to show the reactions of my family and Debbie Phelps. Which they would all be excited and crying because I would have just beat the world record and won the gold. When the award ceremony came around I would wave and hug and kiss my competitors and I would stand all proud and probably cry and sing along when they played the national anthem. I might as well, I almost cry and I do sing every time just watching it. The big story would be about how I decided to become an Olympic swimmer at age 28 and made it to my first Olympics at 32! So, all I have to do now is basically learn to swim. I mean I can swim but not for a long distance and not very fast...but like I said...not a problem!
I thought about going into Gymnastics but lets face it, I am about 5 foot 10ish and really I am a giant among those girls! I can't even do a cart wheel, hurl my self towards the ground and relying on my arms to catch me is really not a good idea! Beach Volleyball could be fun but I have always kinda hated volleyball! I mean I played volleyball in middle school because that's what 7Th and 8Th grade girls did. I also played for church but that was really just so I could go to the tournament and see my friends from Idaho and Washington. So, I figured I wouldn't enjoy it again, not to mention the fact that they play in a sporty bikini! I mean really I am not about to do that, the other day the announcer said told the whole world that one of the Belgium girls was 6 foot 4 inches and weighed 195 pounds! Really, the whole world Folks! I mean she didn't look bad in her bikini but still did we really need to hear her weight? Wish me luck on becoming the World greatest swimmer!

I worked a lot this last week at Starbucks and also found out I got a job at Lewis and Clark College through Bon Appetite. I will be a pastry cook there and work Sunday through Thursday while maintaining my job at Starbucks. I think it will be fun and tiring. So wish me luck!

I also This last weekend made a cake for Hannah B. She was hosting a bridal shower at her house and needed a cake. So, here's a picture of that cake. She really liked it, although I was having issue with my butter cream because that day was pretty hot. It still looks pretty good and you can't tell in the picture!

Back to the bucks!

I got hired last week at Starbucks. I am pretty excited, I did love working at Starbucks! So, for now I will work as many hours as they give me until I get a full time job and then I will only work less then 20. It's the Starbucks out by the Airport right next to IKEA. So, feel free to stop by and say HI if you're in the area!
Last week I went to the Dolly Parton concert! It was great, she sang some oldies but goodies and some of her newer stuff. My sister and parents were also there. Then next day we headed out to Estacada to go camping with the whole family. The wasn't the greatest but it only rained Saturday morning. We had a lot of fun playing games on Saturday afternoon and roasting marshmallows at night. I was glad to get home, a whole weekend of chasing kids wears me out!

haircuts with hannah!

This last week Hannah B and I got our hair done at Phagans Beauty School. It only cost us $5.50! A steal if you ask me. I thought that Katie did a great job on both of our haircuts. I don't have a picture of Hannah's but here is a picture of mine.

I am home and have been for a week!

I left Colorado at 3:45am, the plan of action was to get to my sister Brooke's house by 8 or 9pm the same day. That didn't work out so much! Turns out I missed the I-70 spur and added at least 2-3 hours to my trip. I stopped in Twin Falls and spent the night, left the next morning around 5 or 6am. Finally got to Brooke's house spent the rest of the weekend with her family. The Monday I came in, my friends The Hannah's, Shannon, Marissa, Kristen and Tori were all there to welcome me home. We went to the park and had some lunch and then Tori and I spent the rest of the day hanging out.
This last week has been fun seeing some of my friends. Murphy seems to be a big hit with everyone! I spent one day last week hanging out with my friend Hannah N. and her son Emmett, she came down from Yakima for a few days. Later that week I also hung out with Hannah B and her daughter Gracie. Gracie really enjoyed Murphy I stole a picture from Hannah's blog of them.
I have applied for some jobs and am still looking. Murphy had to go to the vet yesterday...I will spare you the nasty details, but he had an ear infection. I am looking for a Twin bed, the staircase at Tori's house is too short for a queen or a full to fit downstairs. We definitely tried, My parents helped me move my queen bed from there house to Hannah B's house. We took Hannah's Full size bed and it is seriously like 1/4 of inch to big for the stairs! So, basically they traded beds with Hannah yesterday and I am still on an air mattress!
Today I went to the Starbucks by Ikea and to my surprise found a girl I worked with at the Starbucks in Memphis! Weird huh? So, today I am job hunting, and that's about it. Here are some pics from my drive!

Leaving tomorrow!

Today I am running all over town to get the things I need for my road trip home. I need to finish packing and then pack my car. I leave tomorrow at 3 am to head to Lewiston Idaho for the weekend and then off to Portland on Monday. I am stopping for a bit in Salt Lake City to see a friend of mine from Church and Camp! I haven't seen her in a long time, I am pretty excited!
Can't wait to see everyone when I get home!

More cakes!

This weekend we had 2 different wedding cakes for 2 different weddings. One was way up on the mountain and had a spectacular view. The other was in town at the opera house. The second wedding was for Hollywood producers Bruce Cohen and Gabe Cotone, it was fun looking at the name cards because there were a few celebrities there. Hillary Swank, Chad Lowe, Kathy Najimi, Marissa Tomei, Judith Light and Zoe Kravitz were the names I knew. There were other names that I recognized but did know who they were. So I thought it was kinda fun that Hillary Swank would see my cake, She's pretty skinny so I don't know if she eats cake or eats at all for that matter. The first cake is the Mountain cake that I do so often and the second cake was covered in marzipan and had cherries on it. I thought they both turned out nicely!

Aside from the cakes I have been pretty busy with getting everything ready for my move. Murphy I think is getting nervous that I am leaving him behind, from all the furniture that was taken out of the apartment. We leave in 5 days!!

Does it look like wood?

I did 2 wedding cakes this weekend, well the wood one was a grooms cake. Apparently Chelsea Clinton was at this wedding!

I found $5! Woohoo!

On friday when I was at work I ran outside to make a phone call to a call center to start with changing my address. While I was talking on the phone I looked down and found five dollars! I was so excited that I kind of screamed a bit on the phone and the guy on the other end was very confused, so I told him what happened and he didn't seem as excited as me. It mad me a little sad.
This weekend was the Bluegrass Festival, (one of the biggest festivals in Telluride) it draws in a ton of people and they won't let you drive into town unless you have a pass. I don't have a pass, so I had to ride the gondola if I wanted to go into town. Driving into town is much faster and you don't have to share your car with anyone! Half way through the gondola trip into town my flip flops broke! I wasn't to upset over the flip flops because they were Old Navy and 2 years old, it was just that I thought I was going to have to go barefoot. No worries they held up as best they could untill I got home!
On Saturday I decided to go to Montrose for the last time. I needed to get my oil changed and grab some food. I got to Walmart and it took them 20 mins before they got my information! it was very frustrating and then after they got my info I had another 2 hours to wait till my car was done. No worries the woman helping me said if I get tired of waiting then tell her and she would cancel the oil change and I could leave. Yeah, cause I am going to wait and hour and then cancel everything!

The free box

This weekend was fairly uneventful, on Saturday I had a wedding cake to deliver. It was huge, 5 tiers each tier was 4 inches tall. The cake was yellow with Lemon curd, the decoration was by far the easiest I have ever done.
On Sunday I took all the stuff I was getting rid of down to the free box in town. those of you who don't know what the free box is, it is a box that you can drop your stuff off at and you can take whatever is in the box. There is one in town and one in my apartment complex. It's kinda like a free garage sale. I don't usually go to the free box because I don't need other people's junk. But, yesterday I decided to take my stuff down there and was swarmed by a family. They were literally taking things out of my hands.
Last night was the start of the summer concerts in the Village. My friend/bartender is the fiddle player in the bluegrass band that was playing. It was such a nice a day that I had to go out for awhile.
Here is a couple of pictures of my cake from this last weekend.

The one with Ross's sandwhich

The other day I was looking to see what I had for food in the freezer, I found the last container of Thanksgiving dinner that my Mom had made me. Since I decided to eat all the food in the Kitchen before I leave, I thought lets make a turkey sandwich! So I went to the store and bought cranberries and some cream cheese. When I came home I defrosted everything and built my sandwich. I would have to say that this sandwich was even better then the ultimate sandwich 2008 that I made a few months ago. I grilled up my bread and put cream cheese and both sides and one side got cranberries and turkey, the other side got stuffing, the best part was I had soaked another piece of bread in some gravy (some might call it a "moist maker"). That third piece of bread went smack in the middle. I got the idea of the "Moist Maker from the show Friends. Apparently Monica makes a great turkey sandwich with a moist maker in it and someone steals the sandwich out of the fridge at Ross's work. To quote Ross "Somebody stole the only thing good going on in my life!" Seriously you should make this sandwich, it is Delicious!

One Year!

I did it! I have successfully lived in Telluride for 1 year! I only have a month or so left here. I keep making lists of things I need to do before I leave, what I need to get rid of, what kind of music I want to listen to on my drive. I love a list! I am pretty excited to live in a city, I can't wait to eat sushi or order pizza or Chinese food, I don't think they deliver Chinese food in Portland...although they should!
I got rid of my bed and desk, my friend is trying to find a truck to move my couch and chair. For now I am sleeping on my aero bed, there is a hole somewhere but I can't find it. It is a queen sized bed that stands a good 2 feet off the ground and has a motor in it, so i can't just submerge it in water and find the whole. I bought patches yesterday and a spray bottle to help find it...no such luck! It's OK, it doesn't deflate all the way!

My favorite person of the day is...

Dave my apartment manager and neighbor! This morning I went in to talk to him about breaking my lease and because of the mold in my apartment I am free of my lease! Hooray! So, it's really official now...I am leaving Telluride July 11Th. I should be in Portland on either the evening of the 13Th or the 14Th. On top of that great news, my carpet is no longer wet and I have someone interested in buying my desk. Which means I will only have to get rid of my bed! Things are all working out!

What a week!

My boss is still out of town and I am kinda wishing she would come back. I am really lazy when it comes to work if she is not here. Although there isn't a ton of stuff to do! On Thursday night I realize that the carpet behind the chair I sit in was all wet! So Friday Morning I went to talk to Ilan one of the apartment managers, Usually a pretty nice guy...Friday kind of grouchy! He said someone would go look at it. I think they did but my carpet is still wet! So, being that I am such a nice person, I am going to wait till Monday morning to let him know nothing has changed. I have to go in anyway to pay rent and let him know that I will be moving out of the apartment on July 11Th. You may be asking yourself "where is she moving to?" well my friends I have decided to move back to Oregon! Yes, that's right it's not a joke! I am going to be moving in with my friend Tori, who is nice enough to rent me a room out of her fabulous house! I am very excited! I may even be able to make it to the family camp out in August depending on my job...that I have to find. Anyway, I am going to send a email out with my new address and what not soon.

$4.24

Yes folks...that's what I pay for gas! Don't worry, it has gone down from $4.29 this weekend! I would say it's a good thing I live so close to work, but I do have to drive up a mountain to get back home! It's crazy how fast I run out of gas!
I didn't do to much this weekend, Watched a lot of marathon TV. That is what I love about holiday weekends...SVU marathon! Lets see, you may have heard of the tornadoes that hit Colorado this last week. It was northeastern Colorado, we just got more snow! Today looks promising, it's all blue sky outside. I am definitely tired of being cold!
Well, enjoy your week!

Found them!

No worries, I found my pictures! They were in an album behind my chair under some blankets! Today I ordered pictures from all the other activities I have done. So I should be set and ready to finish up scrap booking. I would just start now with the digital scrapbooks, but I want to use up as much paper and other stuff as I can. Plus I just bought a new book and need to fill it in.
I did forget to mention that I made some truffles for my friend Hannah B's husband Merrick. I was feeling bad that I have sent truffles to almost everyone in Oregon and Merrick has never gotten to eat any of them because he can't have dairy. So, for his Birthday (which happens to land one day after mine!) I made him special soy truffles! According to his wife, he loved them!
Since my boss went to Ireland for 2 weeks, she is letting me use her washer and dryer! Every weekend I am either too lazy to drag all 8 loads of wash to the main laundry room or I just don't have enough quarters to do more then 1 or 2 loads. So, she is letting me do ALL of my laundry at her house! I am very excited about this...it's been awhile since ALL of my laundry has been done.
Here's a tid bit of interesting (at least to me) information, I was watching this show about Bigfoot and not only does Bigfoot reside in the Pacific Northwest but he also resides in Oklahoma and Texas! It just happens that in the places he's been spotted, they are very much like the Forrest's of Oregon! Fun fact for everyone!

My frustration of the day!

I haven't posted anything lately because I haven't done anything lately. Unless you all want to here about watching Prison Break and Law and Order SVU. Really nothing has gone on except work and sleep. Work has gotten pretty busy because of a hotel in Arkansas, they like to order last minute and get like 100 fourteeners or 250 boxes of 3's but with out 3 truffles they want 2. So, I have been busy with that.
On Friday I drove my boss to the Montrose airport, she is going to Ireland for 2 weeks. I spent about an hour at Starbucks, My friend Molly called so I talked with her on the phone for about 45 min.
Today, I took Murphy for a short walk and then decided to figure out my scrap booking. I figured I would scrapbook through my graduation from CIA and then start in on digital scrap booking. Mainly so I don't have to haul around all the scrapbook crap! it really takes up a lot of room!
So here is the frustration part, I am missing pictures! Not only am I missing pictures but I keep forgetting about activities that took place. I wrote up a whole list of everything I have done in the past 2 years that I have pictures for, I left out Hannah N's trip to visit NY, I added an extra party that never took place, and I for some reason can't find the pictures from my cousins wedding, my trip to DC with a girl from my class, and some 4Th of July pictures.
I found the Hannah pictures, figured out the parties and now I still can't find these DC pictures or the 4Th of July pictures. Well, that's not entirely true I can find like 1 or 2 pictures from the each event. It's very frustrating! I have the negatives for all of these events, but here in Telluride there is no where to develop negatives! From what I hear the photo place was shut down because the owner was also selling crack. Thanks man, now we can't develop pictures! There is always one who has to ruin it for everyone!

I've got the mold!!

Yesterday I thought I would go by the office and pay rent early (responsible, huh?). Only to find Dave my apartment manager/neighbor asking if I was there to complain about the mold in my apartment. I was unaware of this mold, mainly cause it's in my window sills and I don't usually open my windows....cause it's cold! Turns out that we made it into the paper! There is a whole article about this mold check it out if you like http://www.telluridenews.com/homepage/x317104881 . No worries Dave stopped by later to check it out himself and said that there would be a unit in later this week to clean it up and then thanked me for being so nice about it. I was pretty excited that we made it into the paper, the apartment under me was listed as one of the problems but not mine. Which kinda made me happy cause I don't know if I can deal with that kind of fame, I mean who really wants to deal with all the paparazzi?
Today I am going to make banana bread! I love banana bread, I have had frozen brown bananas in my freezer for like 9 months and think it's time to finally make the bread. The only problem is that the recipe makes a ton of bread so I think I may ask when the cleaning crew is coming and leave some out for them! How nice am I?

Here are a couple pictures of some kid cakes I have done.

You get as many snacks as you want!

After a nice 10 day vacation from Telluride I am now back at work. My trip was great! It all started with a overnight stay with Amy Porter, I thought it might be awkward since I haven't seen her in close to 6 years. No worries, while watching Biggest Loser we caught up and reminisced about the old days of working at Friendsview Manor. Turns out Amy loves Starbucks just as much as me, how could we not be friends!
My flight was fine, I flew Jetblue. It would have been perfect had the guy across the aisle not been the grossest man EVER! Seriously, this man had a mini fro and fingernails that were at least an eighth of an inch long! Please brake out the ruler folks....it's gross! No grown man or any man for that matter should have fingernails that long! He then proceeded to take off his shoes (thank God he was wearing socks!) and eat this nasty taco while licking his fingers. He threw his garbage on the floor and all his magazines! I wanted to say but didn't "this is an airplane! not your living room!" The highlight was I got to watch TV the whole flight! I suggest next time you fly, try flying Jetblue without the gross man...it's great! You get as many snacks as you want!
Once I got to New York, I was picked up by Andy and Geno and taken back to their house in Poughkeepsie. They were so nice to let me stay at their house for the next week and a half. Although, staying at their house was what I imagine living in a frat house would be like. I love these two boys but their house and car were nasty! Geno let me use his car when he wasn't using it and frankly it smelled like beer and red bull. I know, your wishing there was a little tree that smelled just like that to put in your car!
My old boss from Starbucks Jan and my opening buddy from Starbucks Joe came out to hang for the weekend. On Friday we all got together at Julia's house (assistant Manager of Starbucks) to have pizza and grapefruit martini's. Another Starbucks partner Mel was there along with two of my most favorite regulars Liz and Frank. Frank made the best pizza I have ever had! We had so much fun hanging out and chatting.

After I left there Andy and Geno had a big party at their house in my honor. I knew roughly 5 people and there were close to 70 people there! At these big parties they charge every person $5 for a cup. I was in charge of cups at one point in the evening and had this nice kid come up to me and ask me a question regarding the cups. When I answered he responded with "thanks Ma'am"! Boy did that make me feel old, being that I was a good 5 years older then the majority of the people there! The next morning I went upstairs and found a nice pile of throw up in the corner on the wall and bookcase! No worries, they cleaned it up 3 DAYS LATER!!!
I hung out with Jan, Joe, Julia most of the weekend, until Jan and Joe had to leave Sunday afternoon.
Sunday I hung out with my dear friend Kevin and after that I started getting sick! By Tuesday I couldn't really talk and sounded like a man. My sister didn't even recognize me on the phone. She thought I had lost my phone and some man was calling the recent calls to find out who owned the phone. I ended up going to the doctor because we thought I had pneumonia. Turns out it was just an upper respiratory infection. I still have a pretty wicked cough!
The rest of the week was pretty slow, I didn't do much because most everyone was in class or working. It was a nice break from my 7 day work week that I have been doing since December! Here are some pictures from my week!

We're not breaking out of a Jamba Juice here gentleman.

So, my new favorite show is Prison Break! I love, love, love it! The only thing is that it makes me nervous about going to jail. Not that I am going to jail or anything, but what if someone frames me?!?! I mean I don't think I could survive,
Reason #1 Public showers, need I say more?
Reason #2 I'm not very scrappy, I wouldn't win a fight. Girls are scary, they say women jails are worse then men jails!
Reason #3 I don't know how to make a shank or use one.
So, I think I just may stay out of trouble and hang out with the "good crowd" at least for now.
On Tuesday of this week I start my trip to NY. I made the mistake of booking my flight to leave Denver at 1 pm. That is all fine and good if you live near the Denver Airport. I live 7 hours away, which would put me leaving Telluride around 2 am. No worries, Amy to the rescue! I worked at Friendsview Manor, went to high school, camp, and college with Amy. She and her family live in Colorado springs, and are allowing me to camp out at there house for the night before I leave. This way I am only an hour and a half away from the airport! Hooray for Amy!! I will be flying into JFK around 7pm on Wednesday. I will be there for about a week and a half. I am sorry to say that there will be no blogging while I am there. Although when I get back there will be a blog complete with pictures from my trip!! Be excited!

Here are the pictures of Murphy, the first one is a before and the others after...I didn't get a real good one of his gut, in order to get that I have to take a picture of his behind, I don't think he would like that!
Enjoy!!

Ultimate Sandwhich 2008!

Happy Easter everyone! I cleaned out my car yesterday, it was getting to be a bit of a black hole. While cleaning I found a map of NYC and a map of Memphis...both very important when you live in Colorado! I also found 5 empty Starbucks cups, pretty impressive when you don't live within a 50 mile radius of one! After cleaning my car I went to the gas station to vacuum it out. Turned out the only public vacuum in all of Telluride is out of order! What luck!
I also decided yesterday that I needed to make the Ultimate Sandwich for dinner. I went to the store and stayed there for probably and hour trying to decide on what kind of sandwich. I made some phone calls to Andy and Molly to find the perfect kind of cheese for this sandwich adventure. I ended up with a Salami, roast beef and Swiss Sandwich. I also roasted some garlic and put that on the bread and then the cheese. Onions, tomatoes and cucumbers...I don't really like buying lettuce cause you get so much and I never eat it. I wanted the fresh veggie taste along with the crunchiness, so Cucumbers were my best bet! Let me tell you it was a religious experience eating that sandwich!
My car did get fixed, thanks to Happy Tapia (I think his real name is Ralph). It was the thermostat and the best part is Happy fixed my radio! My radio hasn't worked since before I went home for Dorsey's wedding! I am so happy that my radio works!

He's got no secrets!

Today I went out to Grand Junction! Of course I couldn't make this trip without some excitement! It all started out pretty good, I took Murphy to Petsmart to be groomed up a bit. Then I headed out to Midas to get my brakes fixed. At Midas they have all these posters with happy employees all put together and one with this woman with a fancy haircut and make up lookin all happy about her job as though she works on cars. When I get there the person fixing my car is a dirty blond, messy haired woman covered in oil and car stuff with a teardrop tattooed on her cheek and missing teeth. I was a little sad that the woman in the poster wasn't helping me. After that spendy adventure I headed over to Old Navy to see what they had going on for clearance. My question of the day came from Old Navy....Why don't the tiny people of the world shop at Old navy? I see teeny tiny girls everywhere and for some reason they don't shop there. All of the clearance is either XS or XXXXL! And what is wrong with there pants?? I can never wear there pants cause they cling weird! the waist is too big, they cling in the hips and knees! It's soooo weird. So I leave Old Navy and head over to Red Robin, I get there and they are too busy to put me at a table so I sit at the bar. Which is fine, I order and 30 minutes later my Bleu Ribbon burger arrives! Seriously, that is a ridiculous amount of time to wait for a burger in a burger joint! Over to Walmart and nothing too exciting happened there which is kinda shocking to me, mainly cause it's WALMART!
I go back to Petsmart to pick up the dog I left off....only to be given a dog that strangely resembles Mr. Biggelsworth (Austin Powers)! He is so naked that I hardly recognize him. He has such small little legs and such a gut that it's like a fat kid in skinny jeans! He has no secrets...you can see all the way down his ear canals, not to mention the other things that were hiding amongst all his fur are no all out in the open for everyone to see!
So after the original shock of Murphy we got into the car and headed home. Only to be stopped about 20 minutes outside of Junction because my temperature gage was all the way on Hot! So I pulled over and called AAA. All that is between Junction and Montrose is Dessert. So, when Bennett (the AAA guy) asked what the road looked like I was all "um, dessert". He then tells me to pour water into the back up coolant, I tell him I don't know where that is and then I say I can be kinda of a idiot with car things. So, he says well pop the hood and I will walk you through it. Then he says do you know how to pop the hood? I am not that big of an idiot Bennett! The phone goes silent and I say Hello? and he goes yeah, did you put the water in? I say no Bennett remember I don't know how to do it! Who's the idiot now!
Bennett and I Thought we had solved the problem by putting water into the back up coolant. Only to have me pull over a half a mile down the road and call AAA again. This time They sent me a tow truck. Before the tow truck even left Junction I canceled it because this nice couple stopped by to help me out. The man thought he solved the problem, thinking it was the fan. So they offered to follow me to the tiny town of Delta. But, no I pulled over about a half mile down the road cause it was Hot again. The weird part of all of this is that my engine wasn't hot and I had all the radiator fluid I needed. So after chatting with them I ordered the tow truck back and was given a 60 minute wait time. I talked with my sister, mom and Hannah B. all the while telling everyone who stopped that I was fine and a truck was coming to get me. Finally after like 40 minutes Richard and his tow truck arrive! Hooray!!! Richard to save the day.
Problem #1 it's already 4:30pm and no one will be able to fix my car tonight.
Problem #2 I have to be back in Telluride tonight to make a cake and my trunk is full of Butter and eggs for the cake.
Problem #3 Montrose is out of rental cars!
So Richard decides to drive me 2 hours to Telluride because I am a plus member of AAA and I get 100 miles of free towing! What a guy Richard is! So, while driving he is trying to type the address of my work into his GPS which is stuck to the windshield. This has the same effect as text messaging while driving or trying to manually roll down the passenger window while driving or I imagine putting on make up while driving, you tend to swerve a lot! So here we are Murphy, me and Richard all in the cab of the truck swerving all over the road. I am not gonna lie I was somewhat scared.
So he says I can take you where ever you need to go. Jokingly but also kinda serious I say "can we stop by Starbucks?" and he says "sure". I tell you this guy just may be my hero. Here we go off to Telluride in the cab of truck with a guy I don't know for a 2 hour long ride. We talk about everything, broken bones, pets, elk/deer, family...it was a crazy long ride! Finally we get to telluride and drop off my car with 4 miles to spare and then he leaves me at work and makes the 3 hour drive back to Junction.
A big thank you goes out to my parents who bought me a AAA membership last year before I moved to Colorado....this is the 3rd time I have used it since I lived here.

Picture will be posted later of my naked dog....seriously he is half the size he was when I left him there!

As requested...

Pictures of Telluride with snow. I think the snow has finally calmed down! We still get dusted with snow each week but nothing compared to what it was. It is also warming up a bit so hopefully it will all melt away fast!

March 3 last year...

I graduated from CIA! Mom, Dad, Brooke, Sully and Aunt Marge all came out to see me graduate. Here's a little picture of me in school....kinda wish I was back to wearing the uniform, not cause I am so hot in it but because it required no thought as to what to wear to class.
The last two weeks have been very uneventful! Besides winning an Oscar, nothing too exciting has gone on. I got my Digital camera in the mail. I was pretty excited to get that. We are pretty slow right now at work so, my boss has me doing all sorts of jobs. Here are a few pictures of what I have been doing at work!
Last week in Telluride was Gay ski week. There was also an Aids Benefit, I think it was Thursday. Like I said...nothing to exciting!
Oh, wait I forgot.....Murphy had to have a small surgery two weeks ago. I found out that he needed to have 5 teeth removed. So, I took him in to the vet and they ended up having to remove 8! When I picked him up he was still a little high. He fell over a few times. It was kinda funny.
Anyway hope you like the pictures!

And the Oscar goes to.....

I watched the Oscars last night...the whole thing! My favorite parts are the flash backs and the who has dies over the last year part. It always makes me a little misty. I like to imagine what it would be like if I won an Oscar. I think it would go a little something like this...
George Clooney would be reading the nominees for Best Actress in a Leading Role. When he gets to my name I would be in the little gold box smiling and clapping. Then he would say "and the Oscar goes to....Amanda Schlarbaum!" The box would then become full screen and my eyes would be huge and my mouth would drop open, I would mouth something like No Way or Shut Up! I would stand up and give Brad and Angelina a huge hug (they were there to bring awareness to some cause) I would then turn to my date (who's hot like fire and looks great in tux) and hug and kiss him. I am wearing a stunning Vera Wang and my hair is pulled up into a ponytail of sorts and as I walk out to the isle Johnny Depp stands and pats my shoulder as I walk by. I get a congratulations from one of the other excellent nominees from my category. As I get to the front row I see Jack Nicholson who gives me 2 thumbs up....I am imagining that under those dark sunglasses he is winking as well. I get to the stairs and hold up the bottom of my dress so I don't trip. It's your first time at the Oscars, you don't want to trip up the stairs! I get to the podium and George hugs and kisses me (George and I go back, we worked on the film together) and hands me the Oscar. I look at the Oscar and say Are you sure I won? I mean it was just an honor to be nominated, to be put in a category with all of these amazing actors was a dream come true. I didn't think i would win....I am sorry i didn't prepare a speech. Wow, he's a lot heavier then I thought! I would like to thank my family ad friends for all there love and support over the years...um, I would also like to thank the Academy, the cast and crew without them non of this would have happened. To get to work with George Clooney was amazing....he is very much a jokster on the set! (by this time I would be crying and shaking) Thank you all so much, someone pinch me...I've got to be dreaming, George then comes over and pinches my shoulder, the crowd starts laughing. Then the music starts playing and I say thank you again....I love you all! I exit the stage Oscar in hand and on George's arm.

It's kinda gross and little bit blurry....

but that's a camera phone for you!
So about a week or so ago I was at work and I managed to cut my finger pretty bad. So, After waiting till the cookies came out of the oven and putting away the buttercream I drove down to the medical center. I would call it a hospital but frankly you don't want them to do anything but set bones and stitches...if that! I got there and was there for probably 2 and a half hours, just waiting to be stitched up and checked out. So, 3 stitches later I was on my way home. My boss gave me the rest of the day off, so I went home and watched Heros season 1, excellent show. This last Thursday I got them removed and looks like we are healing up well!
I also this last week had to take Murphy to the vet. Turns out he has and infected sist and got some antiboitics. I thought he had tick and the vet told me it was another sist but all I needed to do was pop it. I told her that was gross....ewww! But he is also healing up well!
Be excited....I finally bought a digital camera! So, now I can post pictures that weren't taken on my camera phone! I know I'm pretty excited too! It's coming in the mail this week!
Last night I spent about an hour or so talking with my friend Joe who I worked with at Starbucks in NY. He was telling me about this article in The Tennessean (Nashville's paper) about Starbucks. I am always defending Starbucks out here in Telluride along with trying to explain why I love it so much. No one understands unless they have hung out at Starbucks. I always tell people that when I moved to Memphis my sister and we went almost every morning for her tall 2 pump nonfat with whip mocha or a unsweetened black iced tea which I usually got. In NY Molly and I went every morning after we graduated and sat in the comfy chairs and talked with the cops who were also there. I usually stuck to my Iced venti unsweetened green tea lemonade and she usually got a grande cinnamon happiness (aka cinnamon dolce latte) If ever there was some sort of drama in our lives we went to Starbucks to talk it out. If one of us was sick we would bring the other a drink. Most of the time it was a reason to get out of bed! He told me to read this article and I thought you all might like to read it as well. I am not sure how to post a link but here is the address for it. http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008802170324

No worries.....

it's still snowing! It's not that I don't like the snow. Snow is great! It's just that it always feels like Christmas!
I finally got Murphy a retractable leash I think he likes it. When we come inside from our walk, I will get halfway up the stairs and he will be waiting at the bottom for me to tug on the leash. I am not sure if he gets it yet.
Work is finally picking up! So, I wont be so bored. With Valentines day we should be busy for about a week, who knows after that.
I didn't watch the Superbowl cause I really could care less about it. I spent my Superbowl sunday watching Celebrity Rehab, which just like every celebrity reality show...they are hardly celebrities. My weekend was pretty boring, I spent most of it watching TV and talking on the phone. Work this last weekend was alright, Sunday was frustrating cause everything I touched either broke or didn't work out. I hate those days. I was making buns for this Superbowl party, it was a recipe I have never used and my boss who knows it was in Canada skiing. Turns out the flour I used was too Gluteny (even thought the recipe calls for high gluten flour) and the buns looked like over sized dinner rolls. But they used them anyway cause it was for mini roast beef sandwhiches. Someone bought out the restuarant for the evening for the Superbowl. That costs around $5,000 to $10,000 and I believe that doesn't include food or drinks.

Happy Birthday!!

Today is my Mom's birthday and my friends Hannah's birthday!! I do wish I was there to help celebrate but sadly I am stuck in Colorado where it won't stop snowing! Have a great birthday guys!!! I miss you!!!

SNOW!

Last night we got at least a foot of snow! Today we are suppose to get another 15-18 inches and tonight we are suppose to get another foot and a half. Poor Murphy the snow is almost deeper then him! My car does fine as long as I don't stop on hills. This makes the skiers happy...for me it just make learning how to snowboard that much harder. Good thing my ribs are still sore otherwise I would have to learn in powder. Maybe next weekend I will be feeling better.

Thursday, January 24, 2008

It's just a dislocated rib.

Well, I decided last night that since I do have health insurance and accident insurance I should just go to the doctor. After my crazy fall on Monday, my chest has been in all sorts of pain. Even though they can't do anything for you when you break a rib, I thought that I shoudl just find out what's wrong. I didn't want to make it worse if something had broken. So today Dr. Gaylord informed that yes, you can dislocate a rib. That was his idea on what had happened and that I am just sore. He offered Vicodin to me but I told him I was a trooper and didn't need it.
This last weekend I had a 2 teir birthday cake to deliver up to the top of the mountain. Since it's the middle of the winter, you can't get to this restuarant with a car. You have to either take the Gondola or snow mobile. We chose the gondola and man was that a treat! First off the cake was crazy heavy and I had to get into a moving gondola while holding the cake. Second, when we got to the restaurant and was all ready to stack the cake we realized that Patty my boss had left the wooden dowels in the Gondola. So she had to go back outside to the Gondola station and check every Gondola cabin for the dowels. It was a little crazy but the cake made it safely to the party.
I think I will hold off on the snowboarding until my chest feels better.

Snowboarder girl a go go...

So, I went Snowboarding again, man do I not like this sport! Snowboard instructor Derek says it will click with me and that no one likes learning how to snowboard. He helped me most of the day and then I fell. I fell really hard on one side of my body and felt like my chest shifted to the left. That was when I made the rule no crying on the mountain, just like there is no crying in the bakeshop and there's no crying in baseball! So, I was kinda mad and couldn't get it so I took a break and ended up going home. He said I wasn't a quitter....and that if I had gone down the mountain again it would have only gotten worse. So, yesterday and today...I am very aware of how heavy my head is! No worries...I am fine and will probably go out again. The good news is that I am getting better at getting off the lift...I still fall just not where I can get hit by the chairs.

Sunday, January 13, 2008

it wasn't pretty....

but I did learn how to snowboard, Thanks to Phil from New Zealand! He was my instructor, we had a lot of fun...and this morning I could hardly move! I am in all sorts of pain, in fact typing is hurting my arms. I did pretty well yesterday except getting off the lift. I fall every time! On my last run, I refused the lift and took the little gondola that runs in between the chairs. I couldn't take another fall. Work this morning was a little difficult throwing around 30 pounds of bread dough! But I survived....now I am off to do laundry.

And It's Still Snowing!

So, It's still snowing and don't worry the bank decided not to plow there parking lot so it took 5 mins to back out today!
Be excited!! I finally have my snowboard, bindings, boots and lesson pass along with my ski pass! The boots I got today thanks to cute guy Ryan who works at Alternative Edge. So maybe this weekend I will be out there...I am going to try to stop by alternative edge again tonight to get the wrist guards, socks and goggles. but it's snowing a lot and they close at 6 and it's 5 now....Wish me luck!

God Bless the Chickpea!

You should all be happy to know that I am back on my hummus kick! Well, I don't know why you should be happy about that....but I sure am!
So, this morning was the first time I have ever had to dig my car out of snow. There was roughly 3 feet of snow! It has pretty much been snowing non stop since Saturday morning. Tomorrow it's suppose to clear up and then Wednesday it will start again!
I learned today that a small terracotta shaped cat that is wet, will in fact hydrate a bag of dried up brown sugar. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that you could probably do it with anything terracotta. It doesn't have to be shaped as a cat. When i first started working at Telluride Truffle I was cleaning off a shelf and in the back I found a Rubbermaid of sorts with a small terracotta cat inside and that's all. So, I went into my bosses office and asked if there was a reason for a cat figurine to be in a Rubbermaid. She said that there was probably brown sugar in there at one point. I didn't think it would work and I thought it was strange that they didn't remove the cat from Rubbermaid when the brown sugar was gone! But who am I to judge?

Who blows 2 tires in 3 months????

The answer is me! So, yesterday after a lovely day in Montrose, I was driving back and got about 3 miles from my house when I saw some elk on the hill. I slowed down to see if the elk were on the side of the road which they were not I looked back at the road and saw this ginormous rock in the road about to be run over by me! I had 3 3 options, 1. to swerve into oncoming traffic, 2. drive off the side of the mountain, and 3. drive over the rock. I know tough decisions! so I chose drive over the rock. About 30 seconds later I had pulled over to the side of the road with a blown out tire! When it snows 4 days out of the week there really isn't much of a shoulder. So there I was stuck on the side of the mountain with a flat. Now, I can change a flat (I am not that girl) but I was on a slant and it was getting dark and very cold. So, I called AAA and they sent some one out to get me. Meanwhile 2 cops stopped by one left and the other stayed behind me with his flashing lights so no one hit me.
The tow truck finally came after like 45 mins or so and changed out my tire for me.
Before he started he asked if I had pulled the E brake and I said yeah. He told me to go wait in the cab of his truck and stay warm. While I was watching him I saw my car start rolling back down the mountain. He ran to the other side and I guess pulled the E brake! When he got into the cab I asked if I had forgotten to pull the E brake and he said well not all the way.
Eventually I made my way back home. This morning I went to Telluride tire and got it replaced. My coworkers husband works there and he gave me a used tire and only charged me $30. The highlight to that trip was I found a pair of Oakley sunglasses on the ground! Score!

Snot Freezes!

So, here are a few things that I have learned since living in Colorado....
1. No matter where you are in the country if you go to Walmart you will always see a guy who has the same style as Billy Ray Cyrus during the Achy Breaky Heart fase not too mention the lady wearing sweats and a giant t-shirt with looney tunes or cats sunning on a beach!
2. Even though Dr. Martins seem like they might be good in snow cause of the huge sole and the tread....but there not...in fact they are pretty darn dangerous!
3. Deer and Elk have no fear of cars.
4. When it snows, you still have to go to work.
5. New studded snow tires don't always get you up a hill that hasn't been plowed.
6. The difference between locals and tourist are that tourist wear cologne and perfume and locals you're lucky if they are showering!
7. Just because the law is to keep your dog on leash doesn't mean it's ever going to be enforced.
8. Sometimes in small towns like Telluride...FedEx can just decide not to deliver.
9. and snot freezes! I learned this while walking 3-4 blocks for work on the weekends at 5 am. It's too cold to sniff so by the time you get there....your snot has actually frozen to your face! I have never lived anywhere that cold.

Well here are some pictures from the last couple of months!.
