SNOW!

Last night we got at least a foot of snow! Today we are suppose to get another 15-18 inches and tonight we are suppose to get another foot and a half. Poor Murphy the snow is almost deeper then him! My car does fine as long as I don't stop on hills. This makes the skiers happy...for me it just make learning how to snowboard that much harder. Good thing my ribs are still sore otherwise I would have to learn in powder. Maybe next weekend I will be feeling better.

It's just a dislocated rib.

Well, I decided last night that since I do have health insurance and accident insurance I should just go to the doctor. After my crazy fall on Monday, my chest has been in all sorts of pain. Even though they can't do anything for you when you break a rib, I thought that I shoudl just find out what's wrong. I didn't want to make it worse if something had broken. So today Dr. Gaylord informed that yes, you can dislocate a rib. That was his idea on what had happened and that I am just sore. He offered Vicodin to me but I told him I was a trooper and didn't need it.
This last weekend I had a 2 teir birthday cake to deliver up to the top of the mountain. Since it's the middle of the winter, you can't get to this restuarant with a car. You have to either take the Gondola or snow mobile. We chose the gondola and man was that a treat! First off the cake was crazy heavy and I had to get into a moving gondola while holding the cake. Second, when we got to the restaurant and was all ready to stack the cake we realized that Patty my boss had left the wooden dowels in the Gondola. So she had to go back outside to the Gondola station and check every Gondola cabin for the dowels. It was a little crazy but the cake made it safely to the party.
I think I will hold off on the snowboarding until my chest feels better.

Snowboarder girl a go go...

So, I went Snowboarding again, man do I not like this sport! Snowboard instructor Derek says it will click with me and that no one likes learning how to snowboard. He helped me most of the day and then I fell. I fell really hard on one side of my body and felt like my chest shifted to the left. That was when I made the rule no crying on the mountain, just like there is no crying in the bakeshop and there's no crying in baseball! So, I was kinda mad and couldn't get it so I took a break and ended up going home. He said I wasn't a quitter....and that if I had gone down the mountain again it would have only gotten worse. So, yesterday and today...I am very aware of how heavy my head is! No worries...I am fine and will probably go out again. The good news is that I am getting better at getting off the lift...I still fall just not where I can get hit by the chairs.

it wasn't pretty....

but I did learn how to snowboard, Thanks to Phil from New Zealand! He was my instructor, we had a lot of fun...and this morning I could hardly move! I am in all sorts of pain, in fact typing is hurting my arms. I did pretty well yesterday except getting off the lift. I fall every time! On my last run, I refused the lift and took the little gondola that runs in between the chairs. I couldn't take another fall. Work this morning was a little difficult throwing around 30 pounds of bread dough! But I survived....now I am off to do laundry.

And It's Still Snowing!

So, It's still snowing and don't worry the bank decided not to plow there parking lot so it took 5 mins to back out today!
Be excited!! I finally have my snowboard, bindings, boots and lesson pass along with my ski pass! The boots I got today thanks to cute guy Ryan who works at Alternative Edge. So maybe this weekend I will be out there...I am going to try to stop by alternative edge again tonight to get the wrist guards, socks and goggles. but it's snowing a lot and they close at 6 and it's 5 now....Wish me luck!

God Bless the Chickpea!

You should all be happy to know that I am back on my hummus kick! Well, I don't know why you should be happy about that....but I sure am!
So, this morning was the first time I have ever had to dig my car out of snow. There was roughly 3 feet of snow! It has pretty much been snowing non stop since Saturday morning. Tomorrow it's suppose to clear up and then Wednesday it will start again!
I learned today that a small terracotta shaped cat that is wet, will in fact hydrate a bag of dried up brown sugar. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that you could probably do it with anything terracotta. It doesn't have to be shaped as a cat. When i first started working at Telluride Truffle I was cleaning off a shelf and in the back I found a Rubbermaid of sorts with a small terracotta cat inside and that's all. So, I went into my bosses office and asked if there was a reason for a cat figurine to be in a Rubbermaid. She said that there was probably brown sugar in there at one point. I didn't think it would work and I thought it was strange that they didn't remove the cat from Rubbermaid when the brown sugar was gone! But who am I to judge?

Who blows 2 tires in 3 months????

The answer is me! So, yesterday after a lovely day in Montrose, I was driving back and got about 3 miles from my house when I saw some elk on the hill. I slowed down to see if the elk were on the side of the road which they were not I looked back at the road and saw this ginormous rock in the road about to be run over by me! I had 3 3 options, 1. to swerve into oncoming traffic, 2. drive off the side of the mountain, and 3. drive over the rock. I know tough decisions! so I chose drive over the rock. About 30 seconds later I had pulled over to the side of the road with a blown out tire! When it snows 4 days out of the week there really isn't much of a shoulder. So there I was stuck on the side of the mountain with a flat. Now, I can change a flat (I am not that girl) but I was on a slant and it was getting dark and very cold. So, I called AAA and they sent some one out to get me. Meanwhile 2 cops stopped by one left and the other stayed behind me with his flashing lights so no one hit me.
The tow truck finally came after like 45 mins or so and changed out my tire for me.
Before he started he asked if I had pulled the E brake and I said yeah. He told me to go wait in the cab of his truck and stay warm. While I was watching him I saw my car start rolling back down the mountain. He ran to the other side and I guess pulled the E brake! When he got into the cab I asked if I had forgotten to pull the E brake and he said well not all the way.
Eventually I made my way back home. This morning I went to Telluride tire and got it replaced. My coworkers husband works there and he gave me a used tire and only charged me $30. The highlight to that trip was I found a pair of Oakley sunglasses on the ground! Score!

Snot Freezes!

So, here are a few things that I have learned since living in Colorado....
1. No matter where you are in the country if you go to Walmart you will always see a guy who has the same style as Billy Ray Cyrus during the Achy Breaky Heart fase not too mention the lady wearing sweats and a giant t-shirt with looney tunes or cats sunning on a beach!
2. Even though Dr. Martins seem like they might be good in snow cause of the huge sole and the tread....but there not...in fact they are pretty darn dangerous!
3. Deer and Elk have no fear of cars.
4. When it snows, you still have to go to work.
5. New studded snow tires don't always get you up a hill that hasn't been plowed.
6. The difference between locals and tourist are that tourist wear cologne and perfume and locals you're lucky if they are showering!
7. Just because the law is to keep your dog on leash doesn't mean it's ever going to be enforced.
8. Sometimes in small towns like Telluride...FedEx can just decide not to deliver.
9. and snot freezes! I learned this while walking 3-4 blocks for work on the weekends at 5 am. It's too cold to sniff so by the time you get there....your snot has actually frozen to your face! I have never lived anywhere that cold.

Well here are some pictures from the last couple of months!.
